Wall, just north of Badlands, is a gateway town to the park. It has a thriving tourist industry which advertises itself, mostly the Wall Drug Store, as soon as you enter South Dakota on I-90 from Minnesota, some 400 miles east, maybe even earlier. The anticipation is built up using what seems like tens of signs along the freeway. I usually avoid tourist traps, but visiting outside of the season can sometimes be interesting. And I needed to sleep someplace.
