Badlands National Park

For several millions of years, a scarp eroded originally by White River has been marching northward through soft sediments of a plateau in what is now southwestern South Dakota. Badlands National Park ( NPS website) protects the scarp's sharp buttes and pinnacles along with some surrounding prairie.
