Cancun is relatively far from the west coast, and an out-of-the-way connection in Atlanta made the trip even longer. Having arrived in the hotel late in the evening, the first day was a good time to get settled in, relax, and explore the beach and the hotel.
Just a few steps down from the patio of our suite, or a villa as they called it, was the beach. This side of Cancun is protected from the surf by Isla Mujeres and there is little in the way of big waves, which makes it ideal for small kids.

After resting for a bit and watching TV, we set out for a walk along a quiet section of the beach next to the hotel. A small part has been left undeveloped there, or rather the development seemed to have failed. A pier and a few tourist boats was a welcome opportunity to take photographs as the sun set.
