Badlands national park (see info on my other page) is a quiet place in winter. The wind blows snow around the otherworldly shapes of eroded sediments, and at first glance little seems to be moving in the arid landscape. Only few visitors come by to disturb the calm.
Nowhere is off-season as striking as in the most popular South Dakotan attraction - the Black Hills, home to Mt. Rushmore and other so-called wonders. But fees are still collected and we bid a quick good-bye there.
