Sand Dunes

Colorado sand dunes (see also info on my other page) are as beautiful in January as any other time of the year. And winter perhaps best brings out their special high-altitude character.

I left Boulder feeling not so well around 5 in the morning. When I arrived at the dunes later that afternoon, I was greeted by high winds blowing around a snow and sand mix. I hurried up the dunes so I would have time to set up some nice low light shots. When I finally reached the top of the dunes, the conditions were such that I was almost afraid to take my camera out of the bag. I still pulled off a few shots before retiring to a motel in Alamosa. I got sick for real overnight, and the next day I only had enough energy to shoot from around the park road. Broncos lost to Baltimore Ravens in the AFC wild card game that same day. And to top it off, I ended up sick all next week to the point of not being able to get out of bed.
