It was the end of summer and my friends from the Czech Republic were coming for their long-planned trip to explore California and the American Southwest. I came along for the first part of their adventure - a backpacking trip to Ansel Adams Wilderness and a visit to Yosemite National Park. I am not sure who was more excited. It was their first trip to the US and the spectacular scenery of the American West. It was my first mountain backpacking adventure in almost a decade if I ignore last year's overnight trip up Mt. Whitney. In spite of virtually nothing going by the plan, the trip turned out great and I cannot wait to hit the trails again.
