Thinking about what would make an interesting destination to continue our tradition of post-Christmas road trips, I realized how much I miss the Soutwestern landscape, much of which is a little too far from the Bay Area. I figured, if we gave it a week, we could at least make it to Zion National Park and see other interesting places along the way. So we drove down the eastern Sierra, played in sand dunes of the Death Valley, celebrated the New Year in Las Vegas and finally took in the beauty of winter in Zion National Park. On the way back we looked for the longest train in Barstow and watched trains on a loop near Tehachapi.
